WHEN NOBODY’S LOOKING
Pleasure of Presence

Multimedia installation comprising ceramic sculpture, mural painting, video projection on a transparent curtain, and sound.

This multisensory installation reimagines female pleasure beyond spectacle, inviting it to be experienced through embodiment, sensory awareness, and connection rather than performance.

Visitors enter a calming environment of projected jellyfish, floral imagery, moving ceramic figures, ambient sound, and dim light. The space encourages grounding, rest, play, and connection with the body and the natural world. Dancing figurines celebrate movement as lived experience rather than display, while the translucent projection and immersive soundscape invite visitors to slow down and become attentive to sensation.

Standing at the edge of the installation is a ballerina caught between discipline and transformation. Balanced en pointe, she embodies the hidden labour behind ideals of beauty, grace, and perfection. With her face covered, she rejects the expectation of being looked at and marks a transition away from performance toward a more embodied relationship with pleasure.

Rather than only critiquing how women are expected to look or express pleasure, When Nobody’s Looking imagines an alternative. It expands the meaning of pleasure beyond visual display and performance, inviting visitors to encounter it through presence, movement, rest, curiosity, connection with nature, and an intimate relationship with themselves.
